AVOID MC Movers LLC
AVOID MC Movers LLC/Preferred Moving and Storage--inaccurate quotes, absent customer service, subcontracts jobs without customer knowledge, damaged/missing goods upon delivery. We had a TERRIBLE experience with MC Movers LLC in our move from San Francisco to Colorado. We were given a reasonable quote over the phone from sales rep James, who helped estimate the volume of our 2bd apartment. Quote came to $3200 and supposedly with no hidden fees. Given their good online reviews and online presentation, we expected a professional, seamless move. Initial deposit of $1200 was paid to secure the job. Little did we know that this is a shady company, who does not even have legitimate headquarters. We also suspect that their online reviews are fake. On moving day, 2 men and 1 minor showed up sloppily dressed in a Budget rent-a-truck. After taking a look at our stuff, they nearly doubled the price and the new quote was $6,350. They required 60% of this cost to be paid on moving day, and the remainder upon delivery. Obviously, we were shocked and started freaking out. The foreman then gave us a “discount” of $650 for the unload-into-storage-fee. (Even though this fee was never disclosed in the original quote and we were promised, no hidden fees). We had such a tight timeline to move and were up against a wall. Left with little choice, we had them proceed. The new total quote for this move was now $5700 which included a slew of hidden fees ($650 in packing materials that we were told would be included in the original quote, additional charges for stairs, etc.). The movers were not careful with our things. They scratched the hardwood floor as they moved the furniture around. Mattresses were thrown on the dirty floor and wrapped up in plastic wrap and tape (even though were told our mattresses would be placed in mattress covers). As they dismantled the bed and lamps, they did not keep the hardware together. We found several pieces laying around and showed them to the movers who shrugged and placed them in random boxes. After their departure, we tried to contact MC Movers LLC to discuss the drastic change in cost. We called them nearly every day and just got the runaround. We were handed off from person to person and promised callbacks, yet not once were we able to talk to a manager. Not once did a manager return our call during this 4 week fiasco. A few days later we contacted MC Movers LLC and let them know we were ready to receive our belongings. Another two days later, we contacted them again to verify they had received our request, and they acted surprised (like they had never received the initial message). We called them a third time to confirm they had received our request and again they sounded like it was the first time they had heard our request. A few days after our things were picked up, we were contacted by Itamar Friedman from “The Moving Company”. She told us there was some paperwork we needed to sign. We asked what company she was from and she said “Preferred Moving and Storage”. Having not hired Preferred Moving and Storage, we once again contacted MC Movers LLC to find out who these people were and why we needed to sign anything since it was MC Movers LLC that we hired. Again, never got a call back or was able to talk to anyone at MC Movers LLC that could answer our questions. A few days later Sherry from Preferred Moving and Storage contacted us by phone and let us know that we needed to sign the paperwork in order to not be charged MORE money for additional storage time. Having received no communication from MC Movers LLC, we decided the only option to get our things was to deal with Preferred Moving and Storage. Thankfully Sherry was communicative and reassuring, we signed the papers, and she arranged to have our things delivered. Around this time, we did some digging online. Preferred Moving and Storage shows up online as being out of business. We looked at the Google Maps of the MC Mover LLC headquarters, and it appears that nothing is in that area. We even called the other local business around the supposed MC Movers LLC headquarters and none of them were aware of a moving company in the area. We lodged our complaints with the FBI, FMCSA, flagged the headquarter address with Google Maps as a potential fraudulent address, and lodged a complaint with Movingclaims.net who is listed as a neutral party to lodge complaints with on the back of the MC Movers LLC paperwork. We got a response back from Movingclaims.net that they did not recognize this moving company. At this point we started to panic, thinking this was a complete scam and that we’d never see our things again. Fortunately Sherry from Preferred Moving and Storage continued to communicate with us, which offered a bit of hope. After 3 weeks our things were finally delivered. The movers (this time 2 men) again were sloppily dressed and smelled of alcohol, showed up in a Budget Rent-a-Truck. Since there were only two of them, we ended up doing the unpackaging of our bookcases, desk, and mattresses ourselves while they unloaded and assembled our beds. Though the bulk of our stuff turned up in good shape, there were several items damaged beyond repair or outright missing. As expected, it was difficult to find all the pieces for the lamps, bed, and bookshelves since the movers had not packed them together. Unfortunately our desk is missing vital hardware and a few of our belongings are missing. After 4 weeks we still have not received any communication whatsoever from MC Movers LLC. We now realize this moving job was subcontracted out THREEFOLD without our consent. MC Movers LLC to Preferred Moving and Storage to some random movers. We now realize the mistakes we made along the way, and some hard lessons were learned. Don’t repeat our mistakes and never work with MC Movers LLC, Preferred Moving and Storage, or any of the other names they do business under. At this point we are thankful to have MOST of our belongings, and dismayed that we were scammed out of an additional $2500 in addition to the MASSIVE STRESS that this whole process brought on.
