Review 9/10/2007
This review is for Advanced Windows and Doors in South El Monte. I learned of this company through a friend because he was pleased with their work. I also found them to be good in terms of pricing and professionalism. Of course, it helped to have a competing offer from another local window company which pushed their original price down (although they did not match it). We ultimately went with Advanced Windows because the other company was too busy to fit us into the schedule in the near term, and also because Advanced Windows has a unique molding at the bottom of the windows that looks very nice. My house is a single story ranch style house built in the 1950's. I had seven windows replaced (four of which were very large). The work was done in one day by a crew of maybe 5 guys who were just typical laborer type guys but they worked hard without incident. I had to call Advanced Windows out the day after installation to deal with a little bit of sloppy caulking on a couple of windows. They did the followup work just fine and without any issue. On the negative side, we were disappointed with their finishing work on the inside. We purchased retrofit Milgard windows (excellent product) from Advanced Windows. This windows had be installed from the outside versus other windows that are inserted from the inside. This left a large gap between the window and the interior wall which Advanced Windows filled in with molding (as in "case molding" that normally goes around the window on the inside. The gap was completely covered by this technique (a bit odd though to use this molding for this purpose) and caulk was applied for a seamless look. But they didn't paint it requiring us to hire a painter to not only paint, but also repair the dings and gashes left on the molding that occurred during installation. In addition, some of the windows were not properly adjusted, i.e., the sliding pane wasn't square in the opening. We found this out later when a residential alarm company came and told us this while they were installing the alarm system. The alarm techs ended up showing me how to make the adjustments on the windows by removing the sliding portion and adjusting the rollers on the bottom. Even so, some of the windows didn't glide smoothly when opening and closing. In fairness to Advanced Windows, I didn't call them about this and just let it go. These complaints are minor but prevents Advanced Windows from getting a 5 star rating. I think I would recommend this company, and I might go with them in the future for any additional window work I may need. If you call them, I recommend speaking with Joe who I find to be nicer and easier to deal with than his fast talking brother Rick.
